Dancing Dean's Corner Blog

What is our main goal?

As we participate in this great activity, we ask ourselves that very question a lot. Why are these young people subjecting themselves to long hours of practice, cuts, bruises, and bumps. Answer; because they want to perform, and show, what they can do with positive guidance and direction.

As President of the Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association for 2008/2009 seasons, it is my responsibility to insure that each and every Student, Parent, Director, Designer, Instructor, Judge and Volunteers have a meaningful experience each and every time they come to a Show.

How does one achieve that ? How does one keep everyone happy and contented ?

I firmly believe that people need to put their faith into the Board of Directors, that we will do all that we can, to provide a safe and secure environment for young people to strive and achieve their best. This activity could not exist without YOU, the PEOPLE, who come each and every weekend and sit, watch and cheer for your favorites.

A very wise friend of mine once said, “If you lose your Dreams, you lose your Will.” We all have to do what we can to uplift, encourage, and support this great “Sport of the Arts.” Our young people are our future. They learn from what we, as adults, show, teach, and represent, in our day to day lives. That means that we have to be “firm, fair, and consistent” in everything that we do or say.

The Directors, Instructors and Support Staff for every unit are “Coaches and Mentors” to the young people they come in contact with. They are shaping these stellar minds to think outside the box, and to be able to look at things in a different manner, and problem solve answers to tough questions.

I want people to look at this Association, see what we are doing that is positive, and be proud of what they see. I want this Association to be a trend setter for WGI, and make sure that at the end of each Show, that you feel good about what you have seen, heard, and witnessed by all those in attendance.

So in closing, I will do everything that I can, to represent this Association in the very most positive light. With your help, we will continue to grow, achieve, and promote what I believe is the BEST activity that a young person can be involved with. It is truly an HONOR for me to be associated with great people like YOU.

Respectfully,
Dean C. Decker
RMCGA President
